About
About me
Hi! I am Shiromi, a Counselling Psychologist, with an experience of 6+ years of independent practice. I specialise in mental health concerns of adolescents, young adults, and adults coping with issues such as trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, related phobias, depression, low mood and loneliness, stress management, time management, work-life balance, couple issues, marriage counselling, substance abuse, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, among others. I also help my clients work towards growth, productivity, better habits as well as lifestyle, and excellence in all spheres of life - personal, academic or professional, interpersonal and social. Ethical, informed, equality and research based mental health care practices are what I and my team bring to each of our sessions everyday. I consult with teams, corporates, and organisations to improve the systems, culture, and wellbeing of all stakeholders involved.
My Specialisations
I am a Doctoral Research candidate at Manipal University (submitted my thesis, awaiting my degree!) I am a gold medalist in MA (Applied Psychology) from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (Batch of 2018). I also received the Best Research Award at TISS, Mumbai for my dissertation that focused on childhood trauma and its impact on adult romantic and intimate relationships, general well being and attachment style. I was awarded the Gold Medal in my B.Sc (Hons.) Psychology (Batch of 2016) and I also hold a certificate in counselling & guidance. I am an internationally certified EFT (Level 2) & Matrix practitioner. I also have international certifications in Trauma Informed Care (Harvard university), Professional Supervision (Australian Counselling Association), and Trauma of Money (Certified Practitioner). I am an internationally published researcher (Q1) whose main focus area is trauma, attachment, self-esteem, trust and therapy.
Therapy from me aims to build a collaborative, equal relationship between me and the client using a largely feminist and humanistic lens that entails as a non-pathologising, queer affirmative, intersectional, and trauma informed approach. There is predominantly the use of an eclectic model of therapy which borrows from CBT, REBT, BT, EFT, Narrative Therapy among others depending on what works best with the client to enhance their life skills.
Why Therapy?
Why seek therapy?
Mental health is not just about the absence of a mental illness or disorder, it's about being your 'best self', and this best self is defined by you, and no one else. It's about being comfortable in your own skin, finding inner peace, and discovering and unleashing your true potential. Mental health is about growth but on your own terms and truly and completely accepting yourself. With a healthy mind, you don't just exist, but thrive.
Therapy helps you achieve that, in a safe space. Therapy helps you identify and unlearn negative patterns, and learn healthier and more functional patterns. Through therapy, you learn to identify and cope with deep-rooted causes for problems that bother you in daily life, such as stress, anxiety, trauma, depression, loneliness, addiction, and more.
How I can help you
Rise above Depression
I work compassionately and creatively with teens, adults and families to heal physical and emotional symptoms arising from trauma and other experiences. I have worked with many behavioral, physiological and emotional disturbances, including flashbacks, depression, panic and dissociation.
Take control of your Stress and Anxiety
My practice includes working with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, feeling “stuck” or seeking a higher quality of life, social phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, and stress management.
Manage your relationships
I work with individuals and couples looking for greater intimacy or coping with marital distress. By encouraging them to communicate their emotions effectively I guide them towards healing past injuries and creating an intimate, secure bond.
Gain clarity to shape your career
I work with students and young adults who are at a difficult stage in their career trying to find a direction and dealing with the everyday stress of academia and workplaces
The Social Therapist
The Social Therapist
The very concept of therapy can sometimes feel intimidating or inaccessible or time-consuming or quite frankly unaffordable. So it's imperative to create spaces where mental health can be promoted in different, easier, and more accessible formats. With this in mind, the endeavor of The Social Therapist (@TherapyShorts) is to mark a new beginning for all those who think they could benefit from a brief, hands-on therapeutic understanding of themselves and their lives. It's not always easy to ask for help, or to remain positive, or to brave through the adversities that life throws at us. But what if there was someone sending you a daily dose of strength, positivity, and empathy? To empower you. To awaken you. To enrich you. The Social Therapist (TST) strives to bring therapy-in-short to the one place we seem to spend most of our time - our virtual devices. This is a space to support change, growth, and enhance our understanding of ourselves and those around us. The initiative was launched with a mission to create a platform that helps us find some ways to enhance our self-awareness and self-love. The main focus of all therapists from team TST is to create a safe, non-judgemental space for the client to explore what they wish to work on and discover as well as strengthen the tools to cope with.
